Abstract
California is taking action to address the increase in dangerous street takeovers, also known as sideshows, where drivers engage in reckless behavior for cheering crowds. Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a package of bills that allow authorities to seize vehicles, suspend licenses, and jail participants in an effort to curb the phenomenon. These events, often organized through social media, have resulted in injuries and fatalities. The measures passed with bipartisan support, providing law enforcement with new tools to combat the problem. Similar issues have been reported in other states, such as Florida and Pennsylvania.
