Abstract
The article focuses on a walking tour of the Old Whaling Station in The Bluff, KwaZulu-Natal, offered by Durban Walking Tours (DWT). This site, which operated from 1907 until 1975, was once one of the largest land-based whaling stations globally and has since been designated as the world’s first certified whale heritage site by the World Cetacean Alliance in 2019. The tour, which requires advance booking due to land ownership by the South African National Defence Force, provides insights into the historical significance of the whaling industry and its eventual decline due to conservation efforts. Participants are advised to prepare for a physically demanding trek through the area, which features derelict buildings and remnants of the whaling operations. [Extracted from the article]
