Abstract
Amnesty International has called on the United Nations to expand the arms embargo on Darfur to include all of Sudan. In a report titled "New Weapons Fuelling the Sudan Conflict," Amnesty International found that recently manufactured or transferred weapons from countries such as Russia, Turkey, the UAE, Serbia, Yemen, and China were being imported and used in Sudan. The existing arms embargo, which has been in place since 2004 and only applies to Darfur, is deemed too narrowly focused and poorly implemented. Amnesty International urges all states and corporate actors to immediately cease supplying arms and ammunition to Sudan to avoid violating arms treaty obligations and international humanitarian law.
