Abstract

This article examines the experiences of Polish immigrant adult children living in the United States who provide transnational care to parents with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia residing in Poland. Using the Intergenerational Solidarity Theory as a framework, the study identifies key themes including strong cultural and filial obligations to care for aging parents, conflicting emotions such as guilt and frustration related to caregiving from a distance, financial and emotional exhaustion, and challenges surrounding decisions about nursing home placement. The findings highlight the unique stressors faced by transnational caregivers due to geographic separation, cultural expectations, and limited resources, underscoring the need for targeted support from healthcare professionals and policy interventions. This research contributes to understanding the complex dynamics of immigrant caregiving and calls for further studies to address the growing population of transnational caregivers.
