Abstract
Kenyan police used tear gas to disperse protesters in several major cities, leading to the closure of businesses and offices in the central business districts. Demonstrations took place in at least 10 cities, including Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu. The protests initially began to oppose planned revenue-raising measures, which were subsequently scrapped by President William Ruto. However, the movement has since evolved into a demand for a complete overhaul of the country's governance. The protests have resulted in 50 deaths, according to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights. President Ruto has announced talks with various groups, but many protesters have rejected any consultations. [Extracted from the article]
