Abstract

The article focuses on gender differences in perceptions of stalking offences and their influence on verdict decisions in stalking cases. Research indicates that most stalking victims are female and most perpetrators are male, with males generally showing less sympathy toward victims, attributing more blame to them, and identifying more with perpetrators. These gendered perceptions also affect mock juror decisions, where females tend to deliver more guilty verdicts than males, particularly in cases involving male perpetrators and female victims. However, some studies challenge these general trends, revealing mixed findings and suggesting that the relationship between gender, stalking perceptions, and verdict decisions is complex and warrants further research.
