Abstract
The US Supreme Court is considering whether a 151-year-old indecency law should prevent American women from receiving the abortion pill by mail. While a majority of the court seemed unconvinced that a group of conservative doctors had legal standing to oppose the FDA's approval of mailing doses of the drug, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito raised questions about the reach of the Comstock Act, which prohibits mailing of "lewd materials" and drugs used to terminate a pregnancy. Abortion advocates are concerned that this law could be used in future challenges to restrict access to the abortion pill. The court's ruling on the case challenging the FDA's approval of the drug is expected in a few months. [Extracted from the article]
