Abstract

The US Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case regarding the availability of the abortion pill, mifepristone. The Biden administration is appealing a ruling that would restrict mail-order prescriptions and require in-person doctor visits for the pill. The case will test the power of federal judges to overrule the Food and Drug Administration on the safety and effectiveness of pharmaceuticals. The court will also hear an appeal from the drug's manufacturer and a group of anti-abortion doctors and organizations challenging its availability. The case will have significant implications for abortion rights and will be decided in the midst of the presidential campaign. [Extracted from the article]
