Abstract
The article focuses on the application of Social Network Analysis (SNA) to combat organized crime by evaluating the structure and vulnerabilities of criminal networks. It discusses how SNA can identify influential members and missing links within these networks, emphasizing that targeting less visible but central actors can be more effective than arresting prominent leaders. The study utilizes data from "Operation Montagna," which involved the Sicilian Mafia, to illustrate the effectiveness of SNA in dismantling criminal organizations through strategic node removal and the prediction of hidden relationships. The findings suggest that understanding the network's structure can enhance law enforcement strategies against organized crime. [Extracted from the article]
