Abstract
The article focuses on the Columbine High School massacre as a pivotal event that marked the beginning of a new era of high-profile mass shootings in the United States, highlighting how the attack was originally planned as a large-scale bombing rather than a shooting. It details the backgrounds and motivations of the perpetrators, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, based on their own journals and recordings, which revealed psychological factors rather than external influences like bullying or culture. The piece also examines the role of gun accessibility, particularly the "gun show loophole," which allowed the killers to obtain firearms despite existing laws, and situates Columbine within a broader context of American gun culture and legislative challenges. Ultimately, the article presents Columbine as a tragic turning point that exposed the difficulties of preventing gun violence in a country with widespread firearm availability.
