Abstract

PROMISCUOUS STRUCTURAL REMEDIES SHOULD BE AVOIDED Most large firms reach their size because either scale economies in production or network effects in consumption give large firms a consumer-driven advantage. Sometimes relatively small firms have a great deal of market power, and sometimes relatively large firms do not. Rather, it operates mainly to shield firms who are unable to compete with lower cost rivals.[2] Large but non-dominant firms can outcompete higher cost or less innovative rivals, but they cannot unilaterally impose higher market prices.
