Abstract
The article focuses on the representation of women as police chiefs in major U.S. cities by 2024, noting that women hold about 3% of these leadership positions. It highlights the concept of the "glass cliff," where women police chiefs are disproportionately appointed to high-risk roles in troubled agencies, increasing their likelihood of failure. The paper provides documented examples of women who have reached these leadership roles but faced significant challenges largely beyond their control.
