Abstract
A consortium of Norwegian and international investors is interested in purchasing a €300-million-euro parcel of land on Norway's Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. The sale is being contested by the Norwegian government due to national security concerns, as the region is governed by a treaty signed by 45 countries, including Russia, China, and the US. The buyers, including environmentalists, aim to protect the area from environmental changes and plan to allocate half of the sale proceeds to environmental projects on Svalbard.
