Abstract

The U.S. Transportation Department will require rear seat reminder systems in vehicles by late 2027 to increase seat belt usage and reduce traffic crash fatalities and injuries. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's final rule will enhance warnings for front seat occupants as well. This regulation follows a congressional directive from 2012 and is estimated to prevent over 500 injuries and save around 50 lives annually. [Extracted from the article]
