Abstract
In the article, the authors discuss the key role played by incumbent protection (IP) in the redistricting process in the U.S. Also cited are the determination by the Supreme Court that IP does not violate certain clauses of the Constitution and the possible representational injuries that could arise from the sustained practice of IP in the legislative redistricting process.
