Abstract
This article focuses on the establishment and impact of Qatar's Community Forensic Mental Health Team (CFMHT), launched in 2019 as part of the country's first comprehensive forensic psychiatry service. A retrospective study comparing clinical and offending outcomes before and after the CFMHT's inception found that over a two-year follow-up, re-admission and reoffending rates among forensic patients decreased from 40% to 17.6% and from 32% to 12.9%, respectively. The CFMHT provides multidisciplinary community-based care, including risk management, medication, psychological support, and rehabilitation, working closely with the criminal justice system and families to promote patient recovery and community safety. The study highlights the predominance of Qatari males with schizophrenia and substance misuse in the forensic patient population and underscores the importance of integrated forensic mental health services in reducing recidivism and improving patient outcomes in Qatar.
