Abstract
This study investigates the complexities of fatal police encounters in the United States, focusing on the interplay of mental health status, body cam usage, demo-graphic factors, and police response patterns. Drawing upon reported fatal shootings involving Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics, our analysis reveals significant disparities and challenges inherent in these encounters. Findings indicate that suspects identified as having mental illnesses often face a lack of transparency and accountability due to bodycam deactivation. Furthermore, demographic distributions highlight disproportionate police violence among different ethnic groups, raising concerns about systemic biases in law enforcement practices. Police response patterns also vary significantly across demographics, underscoring the need for evidence-based policy reforms to address these disparities and enhance community safety. This study contributes to ongoing discussions surrounding police reform efforts and equitable policing practices to mitigate the risks associated with fatal police encounters. The study would provide insights and benefits to local and federal governments, police departments, marginalized community leaders, and other community stakeholders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
