Abstract

The article focuses on the challenges faced by Native American voters in the United States, highlighting the work of the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) and the Native American Voting Rights Coalition (NAVRC) in advocating for their voting rights. Despite significant population growth and potential political influence, Native Americans encounter numerous barriers to voting, including geographical isolation, lack of access to registration and polling places, and systemic discrimination. The article details findings from field hearings conducted by NAVRC, which revealed both first- and second-generation barriers that hinder Native voter participation, such as inadequate funding for voting resources, language barriers, and discriminatory practices in voter registration and election processes. The authors emphasize the importance of addressing these barriers to empower Native voters and ensure their representation in the political landscape. [Extracted from the article]
