Abstract
This article discusses the ongoing legal battle between E. Jean Carroll and Donald Trump. Carroll accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in 2019, which he denied. Carroll sued for defamation and sexual battery, and in May 2023, a jury found Trump liable for both and awarded Carroll $5 million in damages. In a follow-up trial, Carroll was awarded an additional $83 million in damages, including $65 million in punitive damages. The article explores the purpose of tort law, the possibility of a gag order against Trump, and the potential implications of a third trial. [Extracted from the article]
