Abstract

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has challenged the state government to conduct the upcoming BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections using ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs). Thackeray made this challenge in response to the recent success of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in three state assembly elections. Leader of Opposition in Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar, an ally of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), also supported Thackeray's demand for ballot paper elections, citing doubts about EVM tampering. Thackeray also expressed concerns about the Dharavi redevelopment project and announced a protest march on December 16 to demand answers. [Extracted from the article]
