Abstract

The article focuses on the end of the longest government shutdown in American history, marked by President Donald Trump's signing of an appropriations bill funding most of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through September 30. The bill covers agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Coast Guard, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency but excludes funding for immigration enforcement agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement and parts of Border Patrol. The shutdown, which began on February 14 due to disputes over immigration enforcement policies, caused significant staffing and operational challenges, particularly for TSA officers. While the legislation includes some agreed-upon restrictions on federal immigration agents, it does not incorporate all the new measures sought by Democrats.
