Abstract
The number of burglaries in the US has been steadily declining for several decades, with a 9.8% decrease in burglaries reported last year. This decline can be attributed to various factors, including improved home security systems and a decrease in the value of stolen items like home electronics. Another significant factor is the rise of remote work, which has led to more people being present in their homes during the day and acting as a deterrent to burglars. Research suggests that neighborhoods with a higher percentage of residents working from home experience steeper declines in burglary rates. Overall, the decline in burglary rates is seen as a positive development with significant economic benefits. [Extracted from the article]
