Abstract
Mexico's Supreme Court judges have decided to join labor protests against President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's proposed overhaul of the judicial system. The reform would require all Mexican judges, including those on the Supreme Court, to be elected by popular vote, a move critics argue would jeopardize democracy. The proposal is set to be discussed in the lower house, where the governing Morena party holds a majority, and has already faced backlash from judges, the opposition, investors, and the US. The plan is a priority for President Lopez Obrador, who aims to pass it before leaving office in September. [Extracted from the article]
