Abstract

The article discusses the current state of Haiti, which is facing a collapse of its state due to kidnappings, insecurity, and gang violence. Western powers have responded by imposing sanctions on Haitian elites connected to gangs and strengthening the national police. However, the article argues that these strategies are doomed to fail because they do not address the root cause of Haiti's crisis: its broken monetary system, which is a legacy of its colonial past. The article traces the history of French and American financial imperialism in Haiti and calls for the restoration of Haiti's monetary sovereignty through debt relief, foreign exchange trading operations, and preferential trade agreements. The article emphasizes the need for Western nations, especially France and the United States, to take responsibility for their historical role in Haiti's financial catastrophe.
