Abstract
This study investigated the impact of a visual multimedia intervention on children’s perception, knowledge, and behavioral intention regarding child marriage in Anyigba, Kogi State, Nigeria. At baseline, children aged 10–17 exhibited positive perceptions of child marriage, limited awareness of its health hazards, and a propensity to engage in early marriage. Following a six-week multimedia program combining text, video, audio, and images designed to highlight the negative consequences of child marriage, children in the treatment group showed significantly more negative perceptions, greater knowledge of health risks, and reduced intention to marry early compared to a control group. The findings suggest that multimedia interventions can effectively influence attitudes and intentions related to child marriage, offering a potential strategy for addressing this social issue in Nigeria.
