Abstract
This article focuses on a study examining gender differences in the psychosocial backgrounds of individuals convicted of arson in Sweden between 2000 and 2010. The research, conducted on 100 women and 100 men who underwent forensic psychiatric investigation, found that while both groups experienced significant psychosocial strain, women showed higher levels of victimization, more frequent psychiatric inpatient care, and greater involvement with social services related to their children. Funded by Region Vastmanland and based at the Center for Clinical Research in Vasteras, Sweden, the study highlights the importance of trauma-informed and gender-sensitive approaches in forensic assessment, risk evaluation, and treatment of arson offenders. The findings have been peer-reviewed and contribute to understanding the intersection of mental health and legal issues in forensic psychiatry. [Extracted from the article]
