Abstract

This article focuses on the challenges of crack cocaine addiction in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, highlighting its prevalence due to county lines drug dealing and its potent, addictive nature. It describes the health risks and behavioral impacts of crack cocaine use, as well as the difficulties faced by users in accessing affordable treatment, given the decline in publicly available rehabilitation services. The People Sleeping Rough Team, a multidisciplinary community service established in 2023, supports vulnerable adults experiencing homelessness and dual diagnosis by providing mental health care, drug treatment engagement, and tailored therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing. The service emphasizes building trust, flexible engagement, and coordinated support networks to address both psychological and practical needs, recognizing addiction as a complex, lifelong challenge.
