Abstract

The article discusses the case of Pippa Knight, which raised questions about dignity in English law. Mr. Justice Poole dismissed the concept of dignity as useful in the case, despite considering it in his judgment. The Court of Appeal confirmed his ruling, sparking controversy, especially within the Catholic Church. The article explores different interpretations of dignity, including a Kantian perspective, and suggests the need for a common understanding of dignity in English law to address its subjectivity and ensure useful juridical applications.
