Abstract

The article focuses on the guilty plea of Michael J. Collins, former chief marketing officer of the CFA Institute, for embezzling nearly $6 million from the financial education organization and Boundless Learning Inc., a former unit of Pearson Plc. Collins admitted to creating fake consulting firms and submitting fraudulent invoices to both companies between 2016 and 2024, using the stolen funds to support a lavish lifestyle. The CFA Institute, which offers the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification, cooperated with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in the investigation and has since strengthened its financial controls. Collins faces up to nine years in prison and is scheduled for sentencing in June on two counts of grand larceny. [Extracted from the article]
