Abstract
The article discusses recent developments regarding allegations of war crimes and human rights violations involving Bashar al-Assad and the extradition of Egyptian dissident Abdul Rahman Yusef al-Qaradawi. A French judge issued an arrest warrant for Assad and several officials for their roles in the killings of journalists during the Syrian Civil War, highlighting a pattern of violence against noncombatants and dissenters. Meanwhile, al-Qaradawi, a prominent human rights lawyer and critic of authoritarian regimes, was extradited to the UAE from Lebanon, where he has been detained without trial, raising concerns about transnational repression and the implications of his case for political dissidents in the region.
