Abstract
The article discusses India's recent approval of changes to royalty rates for critical minerals to enhance domestic mining and decrease reliance on imports. The revised system will charge royalties on graphite based on a percentage of sale prices set by the Indian Bureau of Mines, while new rates for caesium, zirconium, and rubidium have also been established. These changes aim to encourage rational bidding in auctions and increase domestic production, thereby reducing import dependency and supply chain vulnerabilities. The Indian government is actively seeking to attract private and foreign investment in mining to secure critical mineral supply chains, particularly in light of rising global demand for clean-energy materials.
