Abstract

The National Apartment Association (NAA) is leading the way in federal advocacy for rental housing. NAA members and affiliates are promoting three key pieces of federal legislation, including streamlining inspections and the public housing authority experience to encourage more owners to participate in the Housing Choice Voucher Program. They are also advocating for the Respect State Housing Laws Act and the Yes In My Backyard (YIMBY) Act, which would incentivize local communities to remove barriers to apartment development. NAA is also engaged in regulatory advocacy, responding to the White House Blueprint for a Renters Bill of Rights and advocating for the rental housing industry's priorities in Congress. They have submitted comments on issues such as resident screening, renter protections, the 30-day notice to vacate rule, and "junk fees" in rental housing. NAA continues to engage with policymakers to ensure the voice of the rental housing industry is heard and valued in federal policy conversations. [Extracted from the article]
