Abstract

The article focuses on the contributions of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel and Moe Sedway to the development of Las Vegas, highlighting their backgrounds as Jewish-American gambling entrepreneurs from New York City. Siegel, known for his celebrity status and association with Hollywood, played a significant role in the establishment of the Flamingo hotel, while Sedway managed casino and race wire operations and engaged in philanthropic efforts. The study critiques traditional narratives surrounding Siegel's influence and notes Sedway's civic contributions and status as an FBI informant. The author suggests a lack of engagement with alternative scholarship regarding organized crime and the regulatory history of Nevada's casinos. [Extracted from the article]
