Abstract
Three major tobacco companies, including Philip Morris, have agreed to pay C$32.5 billion ($23.6 billion) to settle a lawsuit in Canada over allegations that they failed to adequately warn consumers about the health risks of smoking. The settlement, if approved, would be the largest of its kind outside the United States. The proposed plan follows a 2015 court decision that awarded damages to thousands of smokers and ex-smokers in Quebec. The allocation of the settlement amount among the companies is still unresolved, with a vote on the plan expected in December. [Extracted from the article]
