Abstract
This article examines the prevalence and implications of home alcohol delivery and other methods of obtaining alcohol among young adults in Rhode Island, using data from the 2022 Rhode Island Young Adult Survey. It found that home delivery and to-go alcohol purchases were relatively uncommon (7.4%) but associated with higher odds of high-risk drinking, with 12.1% of such purchases lacking ID checks and 10.2% made by underage individuals. Alcohol theft, reported by 11.9% of participants, was linked to increased high-risk drinking, negative alcohol-related consequences, and drinking and driving. The study highlights the need for stronger ID verification policies for home delivery and to-go alcohol sales and suggests preventive interventions addressing alcohol theft in homes.
