Abstract

This article focuses on factors contributing to female-perpetrated intimate partner homicide (IPH) based on a review of literature from 2003 to 2023. It identifies several risk factors for women who kill their partners, including self-defence and prior experience of domestic violence, socioeconomic status, unemployment, prior convictions, substance abuse, and mental illness. While female-perpetrated IPH often occurs in the context of prior victimization, other motives such as jealousy and financial issues are also noted. The review highlights similarities and differences between male and female IPH perpetrators and emphasizes the need for further research to clarify conflicting findings and develop gender-specific risk assessments and interventions.
