Abstract
The Biden administration has asked the US Supreme Court to block a Texas law that would allow the state to arrest and deport individuals who enter the country illegally. The administration argues that the law infringes on federal authority and would disrupt the longstanding balance of power between the federal government and states in immigration matters. The law, known as Senate Bill 4, is similar to an Arizona statute that was mostly struck down by the Supreme Court 12 years ago. Texas contends that it has the right to take action to protect its citizens if the federal government fails to address the influx of migrants at the US-Mexico border. [Extracted from the article]
