Abstract

Truck drivers in Chile have staged protests demanding greater safety due to an increase in violent crime. The protests, organized by the Northern Force Confederation, partially blocked highways near the cities of Arica, Coquimbo, and Santiago. Despite the protests, there have been no disruptions reported at Chile's copper and lithium operations. Concerns over law and order issues, including crime and immigration, have been growing in Chile, prompting the government to increase security spending. The truck drivers are calling for tighter border controls, highway checkpoints, and the deployment of military personnel. [Extracted from the article]
