Abstract

The article focuses on the guilty pleas of two former employees from cybersecurity companies who engaged in ransomware attacks to extort money from victims in the United States. Ryan Clifford Goldberg, a former incident response supervisor at Sygnia Consulting Ltd., and Kevin Tyler Martin, a former ransomware negotiator for DigitalMint, each pleaded guilty to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by extortion. They admitted to hacking and extorting businesses, including receiving over $1 million in cryptocurrency from a Florida medical device company, and were accused of sharing profits with the developers of the ransomware program ALPHV BlackCat. Both companies stated that the individuals acted outside the scope of their employment and have cooperated with law enforcement. [Extracted from the article]
