Abstract
The article describes a teacher-guided inquiry by elementary students into the local history of segregation in a suburban school in Birmingham, Alabama. It examines the causes and consequences of the emergence of planned-to-be white school during the civil rights era and the history of white supremacist civic endeavors through public affairs pathways. It identifies catalysts of change and embodiments of reactionary resistance by civil rights activists against discriminatory laws.
