Abstract

The article examines coercive control as a pattern of behavior that establishes dominance over an intimate partner and isolates victims emotionally, financially, and socially while contributing to the escalation of abuse into physical violence. It uses the case studies of Natalie Curtis and Rachel Williams to show the difficulties victims encounter when attempting to prove abuse that does not leave visible physical evidence.
