Abstract
The article focuses on Guinea's opposition rejection of a draft constitution presented by the ruling military junta, led by General Mamady Doumbouya, which critics say would enable military leaders to run in elections and hinder a return to civilian rule. The draft, introduced amid a transition period following a 2021 coup, proposes a new bicameral parliament and age limits for candidates but faces opposition from groups like the Living Forces of Guinea (FVG) and the National Alliance for Democratic Change (ANAD), who demand provisions barring transitional authorities from election candidacy. While the draft retains some human rights protections and presidential term limits, it remains unclear if these apply to the current junta leader. Opposition coalitions have called for protests and the release of detained political figures, emphasizing a demand for a return to constitutional order by the end of 2024.
