Abstract

This article focuses on a case study from Enugu, Nigeria, examining the complex intersection of postpartum psychosis and new-onset focal impaired awareness seizures (complex partial seizures) in a 30-year-old multiparous woman who tragically killed her two children. The patient, with no prior psychiatric or neurological history, was managed by a multidisciplinary team at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, highlighting the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in such cases. The report underscores the importance of collaboration among psychiatrists, neurologists, and clinical psychologists in addressing neurological disorders presenting alongside first-episode psychiatric symptoms during the postpartum period. It also discusses the forensic implications arising from the overlap of neurological and psychiatric conditions. [Extracted from the article]
