Abstract
This article focuses on recent international legal enforcement cases involving allegations of war crimes, extradition disputes, and cultural heritage protection. It discusses the prosecution of an Australian soldier, Roberts-Smith, for alleged war crimes committed between 2009 and 2012, highlighting challenges in evidence collection and the significance of accountability under international law. The article also covers the detention and potential extradition of Alexandre Ramagem, former Brazilian intelligence chief convicted for involvement in a coup attempt, whose case is complicated by political offense exceptions in the U.S.–Brazil extradition treaty. Additionally, it reports on Poland’s court decision to extradite Russian archaeologist Alexander Butyagin to Ukraine over accusations of illegal destruction of cultural heritage in Crimea, a region whose sovereignty is disputed between Ukraine and Russia.
