Abstract
The Senate has voted to dismiss the impeachment charges against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, effectively ending the Republican-led campaign to remove him from office. Democrats and some Republicans viewed the impeachment effort as a political stunt and were not in favor of a full trial. House Republicans impeached Mayorkas in February, but Democrats quickly moved to cut off proceedings in order to avoid a lengthy and contentious trial that could have been detrimental to President Biden. Republicans criticized the decision and are likely to use it against vulnerable Democrats in the upcoming elections. Mayorkas defended the administration's border policies and stated that he would not let the impeachment distract him from his duties. [Extracted from the article]
