Abstract

The article focuses on recent developments in U.S. migration enforcement and transnational fraud investigations. It reports on the secretive deportation of nine migrants from the U.S. to Cameroon, despite court orders protecting them, and the subsequent arrest of journalists investigating the case; a U.S. district judge ruled the policy of rapid third-country deportations illegal, requiring meaningful notice and opportunity to object. The Trump administration’s use of third-country deportations, often involving payments to foreign governments with poor human rights records, has raised concerns about circumventing legal protections and non-refoulement obligations under international law. Separately, the FBI, in cooperation with Indian authorities, conducted raids on scam call centers in India involved in fraud schemes targeting U.S. elderly victims, highlighting ongoing international efforts to combat cross-border cybercrime.
