Abstract

Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, has been charged in France for his alleged involvement in the spread of sexual images of children and other crimes, such as drug trafficking, on the messaging app. The charges claim that Durov refused to cooperate with authorities and enable legal wiretaps on suspects. Telegram, which has 900 million active users, has faced criticism from governments and has been used by both protesters and extremists. Durov's lawyer argues that the app abides by European laws. If convicted, Durov could face up to 10 years in jail. [Extracted from the article]
