Abstract
The article focuses on the recent nationwide blackout in Cuba’s electricity grid, caused by a failure in a power unit in Nuevitas, marking the second major outage in one week. The blackouts occur amid intensified U.S. fuel embargoes and financial pressures aimed at the Cuban government, exacerbating chronic energy shortages on the island. Cuba’s thermoelectric plants require about 100,000 barrels of oil daily, but domestic production covers only two-fifths of this demand, worsened by the loss of Venezuelan fuel supplies and restrictions on Russian fuel shipments. In response, Cuban authorities have begun allowing private companies to partner with the state to improve fuel access. [Extracted from the article]
