Abstract

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a plea from Congress leaders requesting the verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the Haryana Assembly polls. The petition seeks directions to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to establish a procedure for checking and verifying the original burnt memory/microcontroller of the EVM components. This follows a previous direction by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta in April to check and verify EVMs for tampering upon request by candidates. The petition emphasizes the importance of this issue for democracy and elections nationwide, urging urgent and authoritative action by the apex court. [Extracted from the article]
