Abstract
The article focuses on Jeanne Barton Haberlaw, recognized as the first French war bride of World War I to come to the United States. Born in Paris in 1895, she served as a Red Cross nurse on the front lines and was honored by the French government for her service, while her husband, Captain William Haberlaw, was a decorated American soldier. After marrying in 1919, the couple settled in Illinois, where Jeanne pursued art education and teaching, actively participating in local art communities and exhibitions. Their documented travels between the U.S. and France, as well as Jeanne’s artistic legacy, are preserved through primary sources including a typed biography and paintings.
